Stories

I love stories! When I was growing up, I really enjoyed it when my parents would read stories to all of us before bed. I had a great imagination and could see the story like it was real. I still enjoy story time today. I get the opportunity to read to my own kids now. I look forward to hearing how the story continues every evening as much or more than my children.

At our April Family Camp we had the pleasure of hearing our speaker, Clark Niles, tell some amazing stories. There was one in which Clark and his gang of friends hid in an old safe in a warehouse after they pelted some other kids who were using “their” baseball field. The group gets locked in the safe and realizes they are in great danger. In the end, they are rescued by their friend, Wee-Wee, who had deserted them earlier because he was afraid of the dark.

As I looked around the room, at the children and adults, I was amazed at how focused everyone was on the story. They may have been moving around or whispering at the beginning but, as the story progressed their attention turned to the story.

In the scripture, Jesus spends a lot of time telling stories that communicate God’s love. I know that the crowd was just as, if not more so, enthralled with the stories as I was as a child growing up. The story of God’s never-ending love and our story come together everyday if we can only see it.

We all have a need to share our story, because in the telling of our stories, we are better able to see how God’s story is intertwined with ours. Laity Lodge Family Camp provides time for our families to share their stories with each other and hear God’s story together.
