Relationships and Summer Fun
Our June newsletter just went out, and it was all about building relationships with some summertime fun tips! (If you didn’t receive it, don’t miss out again! Sign up HERE.)
As you work on building relationships within your family, consider these ideas:
1) Implement a “date” night with each of your kids. In our house we have two children. So one week of the month my husband and first daughter have a date, while my second daughter and I have a date. The next week of the month we switch. The third week of the month my husband and I have a date. And the last week of the month, we plan a family night. The dates don’t have to be outside the home, every week, take up a lot of time, or even cost money. We just spend intentional, focused time together.
2) Have a family dinner at least once or twice a week. Put away the electronic devices and talk! Try conversation starters like “What was your favorite summer vacation?” or “What would be your ideal summer vacation?” Use the opportunity to share with your kids what you did during the summer as a child.
3) Declare a “disconnection” time – whether it’s an hour, a day, or a week. Turn off the television, step away from your phone, unplug the computer and the gaming equipment. Spend some quality, un-distracted time together and see what happens!
If you’d like to read more about building relationships, check out our sister site, The High Calling for more resources. Here are a couple to get you started:
Gremadcha – Greta writes honestly about her desire (and fear!) to know her heavenly father.
Storing Up Treasures – Courtney discusses finding balance in our parenting by focusing on relationships.
