Guest Post: A Special Interview

Suzanne and Travis Wilson brought their three children, Joseph (5), Jack (3) and Ellen (1), to a Laity Lodge Family Camp Weekend in May. Ten families from their church in Austin came to Singing Hills together. Recently, Suzanne and her son Joseph chatted before bedtime about their memories.
Suzanne: Why did you go to LLFC?
Joseph: Because you took me.
Suzanne: What has LLFC done for our family?
Joseph: I did archery. Remember, I played tetherball against you? Me and Sam vs you and Andrew, remember? (Sam and Andrew are brothers in a family that we know from church.) And the Carnival Thingy on the last night before we went to sleep…bubbles and paper football.
Suzanne: Who were the people you saw at Family camp?
Joseph: Sam, Charlie.
Suzanne: Any adults?
Joseph: Mr. Benjie, Mr. Burton (Sam’s and Charlie’s dads)
Suzanne: Any family people?
Joseph: Yes – Nonnie and Papa Jack came, too!
Suzanne: Any other people that were special to Mommy?
Joseph: Mr. Clark
Suzanne: How did Mommy know Clark?
Joseph: He was you guitar teacher (Clark Niles was one of our program leaders that weekend).
Suzanne: What did you like about our nighttime Roundups?
Joseph: Roasting marshmallows and Coach Susan with the competitions. (Coach Susan was a crazy character that got us fired up for our games!)
Suzanne: Would you want to go again?
Joseph: Yes! Yes! Yes!…when can we go again?
Joseph: What did you like best?
Suzanne: Having my family there, my parents, my small group and other friends from church and my youth director Clark Niles all in one place. It was super special.
Joseph: What was your favorite part at the nighttime Roundup?
Suzanne: Watching the little girls dance during the music and listening to Clark talk about the same things he did when I was a kid – the importance of relationship, of continuing to trust God, of seeing his faithfulness.
Joseph: Did you go to LLFC 10 times?
Suzanne: No, I went once when I was about 14 as a volunteer for the weekend.
Joseph: What was your best part?
Suzanne: The giant waterslide
Joseph: How many feet did you go down?
Suzanne: Maybe 7 feet. Was I the only mommy who went?
Joseph: Yeah. I think I went like 8 feet.
